ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WARAHMATULLAHI WABARAKATUH

DEAR IASJ FAMILIES,

My name is Aminul Islam. Incidentally, I have to admit I didn’t start off my career in the educational field. I obtained my Bachelors and Masters Degrees both in Civil Engineering, and later my PhD in Political Management. However, I found that throughout my life, I was attracted to being an educator. Whether it was tutoring students, teaching certain classes, or taking courses on student counseling, family counseling and school administration during my studies at university in the US, I would always find myself coming back to teaching and education.

Afterward, I decided to dedicate myself entirely to the arena of Islamic schooling. I spent a year as a Deen teacher for an Islamic School in Missouri, and then progressed to serving another three years as a Principal in another Islamic school nearby. I also served as the principal of Al-Rasheed Academy for five and half years. In each position I have learned many things and faced many challenges, which have allowed me to develop and enhance my experiences, and grow as a person and an educator. I have also been counseling many Islamic Schools and Masjids throughout the U.S., Alhamdulillah.

I hope to bring all of this to the Islamic Academy of South Jersey and do my best in the time that I am able to be here with you. I am honored to be a part of your school, and at the same time I understand the responsibility as a Principal to create an educational environment which will serve as a foundation towards the future of all the students of the school. To the best of my ability and with the permission of Allaah subhana wa ta’ala I intend to try to improve the school system and develop the students’ education so that it not only advances them in this world, but in the Hereafter as well according to the principles of Islam. I firmly believe that the school administration should not simply be based on what will progress our students in their future careers or occupations, but what will allow them to grow as practicing Muslims, impart on them good character and enhance their moral understanding in this ever changing society. Only in this way can we consider that our students will have received a proper education. InshaAllah.

I will try my utmost to achieve this goal, and I also ask the help and cooperation of the families as we face the challenges that come our way, in order to pave the future we all desire for our students. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child, or the school. Together I believe we can make the Islamic Academy of South Jersey a great place to learn and grow and I look forward to working with all of you. May Allaah subhana wa ta’ala help us all.

Sincerely,

Dr. Aminul Islam
